Forensics

Forensic science involves all fields of work related to the analysis, reconstruction and solution of criminal cases. Within this area Qualitype GmbH is specialized in case management and laboratory information management as well as the analysis of forensic-specific examinations and DNA analyses.

Case Management

Case management subserves the management of court exhibits in the course of solving crimes. It involves registration and description of exhibits, preparation of examination requests for their processing in different departments and the tracing of exhibits within a forensic institute.

For this purpose Qualitype GmbH offers Abetter Case Management for its cross-departmental usage.

Laboratory Management

Laboratory management includes all actions involved in managing of lab information and lab activities as well as their planning, controlling and monitoring. Managing information means recording and storing of data as well as its processing and representation.

Lab information contains sample management and examination results as well as corresponding methods, reagents and devices. Crucial is information for quality management such as dates of expiry and calibration intervals. In order to ensure an effective regulation of laboratory work also planning, task management and controlling e.g. by statistic methods is of importance.

As to support lab management Qualitype GmbH provides Abetter LIMS. The software is available as a basic variant or as a forensic edition – its specialization for forensic DNA labs.

The Abetter LIMS Forensic Edition presents an all-in-one solution for managing forensic lab processes, additionally integrating forensic methods and specific examination analyses.

Forensic Examinations

All exhibits that have been collected in the process of solving crimes are investigated in respective departments. To these investigations belong the analysis of fingerprints (dactyloscopy) and the evaluation of shoe prints, glove prints and skid marks that are performed by use of scientific practices.

In order to manage and analyze these specific forensic examinations Qualitype GmbH developed Abetter Dactyloscopy  and Abetter Impression Evidence , which can be used in combination with Abetter Case Management.

Forensic DNA Analytics

Analyzing DNA in forensics means the analysis of biological material for the purpose of identifying kinship relations or solution of criminal cases. It is based on the creation of genetic fingerprints that are characteristic DNA profiles of every individual.

||| Kinship Examinations

Kinship investigations are supposed to declare paternity, identify decendents and ascertain kinship relations. Therefore, DNA profiles of all involved persons are determined and analyzed. The analyses take place with help of biostatistic methods enabling to predicate paternity, relations or identity.

To this end, Qualitype GmbH enables to process DNA profiles and conduct paternity analyses and kinship examinations by help of the established software GenoProof

||| Tracks and Traces in Criminal Cases

As an aim of criminal investigations traces are intended to be assigned to one or several persons. For doing so, DNA evidence of a trace is compared with DNA profiles of suspected persons. In some cases traces are present as mixed traces that are mixtures of several DNA profiles. Mixture analysis resolves these mixted trace into separate DNA profiles.

On the account of analyzing single and mixted DNA samples Qualitype GmbH developed GenoProof Mixture
