ALLST*R is an extensive allele frequency database for autosomal short tandem repeats (STRs). The basic idea of ALLST*R is to provide users with a tool which enables them to build a central collection of allelefrequencies in cooperation.
For this, the web-based software application offers various functions like adding of allele frequencies, export of existing records and calculating of biostatic parameters of quality. Furthermore, the database offers users broad information about STR markers, populations, biostatic values and literatur references.
Short Tandem Repeats (STRs)
STRs are short repeating nucleotide units and typical for noncoding DNA regions of all humans. These STR loci only differ in the number of repeats between individuals. Different numbers of repeats are represented by different alleles. Depending on how often a particular allele is present in a specific population, the allele frequency varies. Due to these properties, alleles with their frequencies are the foundation for all biostatistical evaluations based on genetic fragment length analysis.
